Weekend at the lake round 2

My fourth of July weekend was incredible! Friday morning I picked up my friend Emily and drove to my friends’ the Bragets’ cabin up in Seeley. We arrived around 11am and almost immediately began to pack up all of our stuff so we could head to the lake! So exciting!!

IMG_3960

We spent the rest of the day relaxing on the shore, reading, eating snacks, and some of us jet skied (not me). It was a blast! That night we all crashed pretty early and awoke for another day on the lake. But first, breakfast by the fire.

IMG_3965On Friday we went to Holland Lake, but Saturday we decided to actually go to Seeley since we had an early start and would be able to get a good spot on the beach. And we sure did! We were right by the water in a big grassy area. I didn’t swim but it was wonderful to be with my best friends and I got some reading in. Can’t ask for anything better! That afternoon our friends Ben, Mike, and Craig picked us up on their boat and we cruised around for a few hours before heading back to the cabin to eat and rally our energy. The boys came back over around 8 and we had a blast playing board games and hanging out until late into the evening.

I’ve missed being around these guys so much!! Christina and Danielle are two of my very best friends and its wonderful being with people who you’re so comfortable with. This whole year I’ve made tons of new friends, which is wonderful, but old friendships are really something. I didn’t want the weekend to end!

But Sunday afternoon it was back to reality! I rolled into Missoula around 3 and decided to catch a movie since I wasn’t really sure what to do with my afternoon. I picked World War Z which was a bad choice.

world-war-z

There were a lot of people in zombie make up chopping their teeth like chipmunks and very little dialogue. If that’s your thing, you’ll love it!! Once the movie was over I grabbed a sandwich at Jimmy John’s and called it a night. Today I worked from 8 to 6 and now laundry is calling my name! Woot woot. Have a good one! 😀

What did you do fourth of July weekend?

In The Kitchen With Halley

My sister got home on Saturday night!! Her flight out of Billings was delayed and we didn’t think she was going to make it since her layover was cut short to only 5 minutes. Thankfully, she was able to make her flight and she arrived in Austin around 11:30pm. We were all super excited to see her, Alice included, of course.

IMG_2386_2Halley and I stayed up until 5 in the morning talking and catching up, but somehow I woke up at 8 yet again! Our mom cooked a magnificent breakfast of homemade Belgian waffles and we all sat at the table as a family. A couple hours later, the tiredness really hit me and I took an afternoon nap.

When I woke up Halley had created a fantastic lunch!

IMG_2392_2She whipped up a pasta sauce from ingredients we had on hand and it tasted delicious. Sleeping and eating, not a bad way to pass the day 😀

At one point in the afternoon we all went to HEB (our grocery store) to load up on food for the week. My favorite finds were blueberries and apricots. Fruit salad may be on the agenda for my snack today.

When we got home, the adults cracked open a few beers and we sliced up a mango to enjoy while cooking dinner.

IMG_2394_2

IMG_2406_2 IMG_2397_2I’d forgotten how sweet mangos are. Fruit is amazing.

IMG_2409_2The other day in Health magazine, my mom saw an ad for Applegate Farms organic all-beef hot dogs. We hadn’t had hot dogs in years so we decided we should try them! The ingredient list is super short and only lists things like beef, onion, celery, etc. So many hot dogs are made of mystery meat, but these ones were actually pretty healthy.

IMG_2419_2I topped mine with mustard and relish and enjoyed some homemade sweet potato fries alongside. It’s crazy how you can chop up a sweet potato, top it with some seasoning, throw it in the oven, and it creates this crazy-addicting snack. YUM!

After dinner we watched game two of the Finals (what were you doing Spurs?) and I took a nice long bath. I am actually finding that I really like watching basketball. Usually I just expect to be bored so I check my computer and never know what’s going on, but when I pay attention it’s a blast!

Now we’re all caught up!

Breakfast

IMG_2420_2I toasted two of the leftover waffles and topped them with chocolate almond butter and a banana. It’s like eggos, but a bajillion times better.

Day of the Avocado

Yesterday when I was at HEB with my mom I picked up a huge ripe avocado so that I could eat it today! I love avocado soooo much. It’s so versatile, creamy, delicious, and great for you! MUFAs baby!!

After a breakfast of raisin bran crunch and a banana, I packed up my lunch that consisted of a guacamole and caramelized onion sandwich and an apple.

photo-115My day has consisted of a 2 hour biology review, 3 hours of chem studying, and an hour of chemistry office hours. My friends and I were on the third floor of the student activities center which I didn’t even know existed! You should have seen the line at Starbucks during Frappucino happy hour. Crazy. I’ll have to take advantage of that one of these days before the deal is over!

photo-116I came home dead tired and ready for my Amy’s organic chili topped with the rest of my avocado. It looks a little brown but it was every bit as delicious.

photo-117Now I am going to take a nap and maybe wake up and study more! We shall see!

Do you like avocado?

Roaring Fork and Lucy’s Formal

After a lovely Sunday afternoon spent at my parent’s house studying, drinking tea, and grocery shopping, I scurried home to get ready to go to a formal with my friend James! It was such a fantastic night.

First I met a bunch of James’ fraternity brothers and their dates before we all hopped on a bus to our restaurant downtown called the Roaring Fork.

IMG_3384 IMG_3385They sat us in a beautiful private room with a giant wooden table and elk chandelier. The service was nice and slow and we took our time savoring some drinks and appetizers and enjoying each others’ company before our main meals were served.

IMG_3393

IMG_3388I had the Waldorf salad and it was AMAZING!! I couldn’t finish it and I wanted to take it with me but I didn’t feel like toting it all around downtown. *sob* A few hours after we arrived at the Roaring Fork, our bellies were full and we were ready to head to the main event!

IMG_3399 IMG_3396We walked to an adorable bar called Lucy’s and spent time out in the beautiful Texas evening meeting new people and talking up a storm. I had so much fun.

IMG_3401 IMG_3412 IMG_3414Once James and I left Lucy’s, we went back to his apartment and changed into sweats and ate watermelon with his roommates. Perfect low-key way to end the evening! I didn’t go to bed until 4am but surprisingly I woke up at 8am and couldn’t fall back asleep! I predict a nap in my future.

Have you ever gone to a formal event? What did you do? Do you prefer a formal or a laid back evening?

Roadhouse

Today when I got off work I was in a great mood. It’s Friday, I don’t have any tests next week, and I have a super fun weekend planned! Kicking it off was an incredible dinner with great friends at Texas Roadhouse. I am so full and my abs hurt from laughing so hard!

HOLY MOLY TEXAS ROADHOUSE SERVES YOU SO MUCH FOOD. For ten dollars I got a heaping pile of pulled pork, a million steak fries, unlimited rolls, and a ceasar salad. By the time my meal got to me I was already full and could barely eat any!

Before:

IMG_3239And after:

IMG_3240It was deeeeeelicious though and I can’t wait for all the leftovers!!

I’m leaving to go camping in the morning and I still haven’t packed or anything! EEK!!

Have an AWESOME weekend!!!!!

Lazy Thursday

I woke up to some great news yesterday. My chem teacher grades our tests SUPER fast and guess what I got? A 96. Didn’t even know that was possible for me.

tumblr_m5xo9h5X3E1qgfdhto1_500Now I just need and A on the next test and on the final! I can do it! So after that victory, I decided to basically take the day off. My history professor cancelled my 2 hour lecture because he’s in Nicaragua so I spent the entire day with my mom and Halley.

basketballIMG_3122Mom finally found a chair that fits her teeny self! It’s so cute. I also got two new summer outfits (just shorts and t shirts) but I love them because they’re SO soft and fit perfectly.

We ate dinner at Elevation Burger, saw the new house, and went to bed. Today it’s back to class and studying for me, but I’ll get to join my sister for dinner on her last night here at least!

Workout

On Wednesday I did a nike training workout, but totally skipped out yesterday. Back on track in every aspect today.
