Bad Day vs. Good Day mash up

When you think about it, there are very few truly bad days. Even on some of the worst ones, there are good moments or fun things that happened after or before the crap snuck in. Yesterday was one of those! Let’s start with the bad because it’s so much better to end on a positive note, dontcha think?

1) Signing into blackboard to turn in my online paper and realizing I missed one of the tests while I was moving across the country, and I can’t make it up. Insert minor heart attack.

tumblr_m4016qhlHg1rolvqk2) Meeting with my advisor and finding out that my credits from University of Texas only count as electives so I have to re do the entire semester. I went to the head of the pre-med department and the registrar’s office, but nobody could help me. 16 grand and months of studying flushed down the toilet. Insert full blown panic attack and lots and LOTS of tears.

tumblr_lfrq1sdfm11qdzjnpI’d say that’s enough bad for one day.

1). I went to a pre-med meeting and left feeling like I have such a great support system here that really wants me to succeed. I also went to a “getting involved on campus” workshop and won a cool water bottle!

IMG_39072) I had an amazing lunch in the sun that consisted of whole wheat bread, avocado, and a super sweet apple.

IMG_39093) I had an incredible dinner with my aunt Caroline, uncle Fred, Phoebe, and Tobin and had a really great night talking with all of them. Then Phoebe and I went grocery shopping and I have some great meals planned for this week!

IMG_3911 IMG_3910Today I’m having lunch with my friend Tyler and then heading up to my cabin for the night! I’m still kind of sad but every day will keep being great and everything will turn out okay in the end 😀 Have a great one!

The Idiot

Today was a very productive day! It started bright and early with a 7am wake up call and a hearty, delicious breakfast.

IMG_3892I figured out that putting the peanut butter on top of my oatmeal while its still hot is SO much better than stirring it in while it cooks. You can taste it so much more and every bite has a little ribbon of creamy, melty deliciousness.

After breakfast I finished up my psychology research paper. It took much longer than it should have due to many breaks and general distractedness, but around lunchtime I finally finished and ran out to run some errands (after eating a bowl of quinoa and an apple).

IMG_3901I mailed Halley her climbing shoes, sent the rest of the money I owed to the people who I bought the bed from, and returned some things from Target. Then I came home and relaxed for a bit before heading to my transfer student meeting on campus.

As I was sitting outside the lecture hall before the meeting, two people walked up to me. Feeling super social, I introduced myself right away to the woman and was super smiley and sweet. I then proceeded to ask her the name of her dad.

Who turned out to be her husband.

tumblr_inline_mhrsry5e5X1qz4rgpThen we had to sit there for like ten minutes and wait for the meeting to start. That wasn’t awkward at all. Once the meeting was over, another wave of incompetence hit me and I was totally unable to find my way home. This is not a large campus. See, there is a little park across from my house that I’ve never noticed before, so when I saw that park I thought I must be going the wrong way.

rD1J7gVI wandered around the empty campus for thirty minutes getting more and more turned around and hungry. Finally, I had to call my mother and she gave me step by step instructions on how to get home (she grew up in Missoula). Yep, almost twenty years old folks and my sense of direction has refused to kick in. Sheesh.

Once I was done being an absolute moron for the day, I spent the next hour enjoying my book in the newly discovered park outside my house! After munching on some almonds and a small bowl of cereal, that is.

IMG_3902At six I walked down to my cousin, Phoebe’s, house to join her at “out to dinner”, an event held in the park by the river downtown. It was a gorgeous night and I am still blown away by how beautiful this city/state is.

IMG_3903I had a pulled pork taco and a beef taco with spinach, salsa, guac, and pepper jack cheese. Holy yum!! After dinner we walked around downtown for a bit to soak in the evening before calling it a night.

IMG_3905When I came home I had a really fun and long conversation with my roommate Madi. She’s  awesome! Now I’m off to bed, I have an entire day of orientation tomorrow. Lets see how that goes, shall we?

Yesterday was glorious! I woke up early to get some studying out of the way since I didn’t have class until 12:30pm. I ended up taking an unplanned nap (I really shouldn’t study on my couch) but still got a lot done.

After class I went to the gym and did an intense, uphill, ten mile bike ride. I was a ball of sweat when I finished, let me tell ya!

photo-72(The resistance was only on 8 for the cool down, don’t fret). Stretching afterward felt wonderful and I realized I can still do my splits! Because that’s totally a necessary life skill…haha but I am glad for the flexibility. It keeps my back from hurting.

After my bike ride I headed to the library to shove some more bio into my brain. I zoned out into what I was doing so much that before I knew it two hours had flown by! It literally felt like five minutes. I couldn’t believe it.

confusedOnce the productive part of my day was mostly over, me and some friends’ of mine headed to a delicious dinner at pluckers! They have hands down the BEST boneless honey BBQ wings I’ve ever had in my life. I was dreaming about them all day.

Pluckers_Color-LogoThey I came home will good intentions to do some government reading, but I ended up talking on the phone instead. And this morning I slept way in! Ah!! I have some catch-up to do. Have a great Friday everybody!! 😀

Yesterday was spectacular. The weather was perfect, with highs in the 80’s and sun basking over everything. At 2pm I got a text from work saying that it was super slow and I didn’t need to come in if I didn’t want to, an opportunity I jumped on! I went back to my condo and hung out with all the girls visiting for Roundup weekend (a huge weekend of Greek parties with food, concerts, drinks, and the likes every year. It’s huge.) We sat on the couch and were lazy, just catching up on girl talk for a few hours.

tumblr_md4rw6ThDP1ql5yr7o1_400Then Juan Pablo and I went to dinner at my favorite Thai place, Madam Mam’s. I had Pad See Ew with beef and left full and happy to watch our friends’ dance performance!

They are in the Dabke group on campus. Dabke is an Arabic form of dance that originated from the creation of thatched roofs. They had to stomp on the roofs in unison to bind them together and the style of dance was born!

photo-66It’s much more intricate than that now though, of course, and this group was so good! I’ve heard my friend Osama talking about it several times and was super curious so the chance to see it in action was very gratifying. It’s such an upbeat, energizing form of dance and I could tell everyone in the group loved to do it. They had big smiles on their faces, energy in their movements, and made the dance seem like a true celebration.

Afterward, we all went back to Juan Pablo’s apartment and hung out and talked for a while, before I got too tired and had to head home to bed! Now I’m at Starbucks typing up this blog post before I get some chem studying under my belt and head to my first Purre Barre class.

purebarre-threepicsI’ve wanted to try Purre Barre forever! When my friend Caroline asked me to go with her I was so excited. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes! Have a great Saturday!

NTC_Logo_NBasianYep, another NTC workout. An intermediate level, 45 minute toning workout. Perfect way to start my day!

Several Things

1. I’ve discovered a way to make cream of wheat taste good. You have to put in 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. You have to. And cook it with milk. You’ll actually love the taste, but I still don’t know how to get rid of those weird little chewy balls it  forms. Ew.

tumblr_lsggh5lT3G1qfvlraCream of wheat has tons of iron and I need that so that’s why I’m attempting to make it palatable. It kind of tastes like mealy baby food otherwise. MMMMMM.

2. My toes sound like mini bombs in the morning. My roomie was asleep in the living room so I tried to sneak by super quiet…CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK!!! It’s like artillery fire. wtf.

tumblr_mdripr5oXB1r48rzko1_500“Get your toes out of here so I can sleep!!!”

3. I went to see Mama last night at midnight. I was with Juan Pablo and a bunch of other people. First we ate delicious chicken at “Pluckers”, then we went up to a mountain thingy and hung out on blankets and talked (such a pretty view!), and finally we mobbed over to the movie. Jessica Chastain is a FABULOUS actress. Wow. She was not herself at all.

130120-jessica-chastain-mama-600-1358712299 jessica-chastain-mama-promotion-on-today-show-watch-now-12I thought it was weird she did that movie though. It really wasn’t very good…they kept trying to make you feel sympathetic toward this broken limbed, slimy, crazy eyed, creepy crawly thing who murdered people. Um..I’m not. You can go ahead and die I’ll feel just fine.

The agenda today is workout, knock out some studying, and go out tonight with Paige, Madison, and Natalia! Woot woot.

What are your plans for this lovely Saturday?

Step Warrior

OMGoodness today in my step class there was the cutest and most dedicated woman I have ever seen. She was a super duper tiny, cute as a button Asian girl, and she had bobbed hair that bounced really high every time she hopped. She added like 4 extra hops to every move we did AND her step had like 5 things stacked under it.

Her bob was flying like crazy and every time I saw it I was reminded that she was getting like 40x the workout I was, and I was working hard! DANG GET IT GIRL!!!! I need to get on her level!

patience-young-grasshopperI’ve been doing so many fun things lately that not all of them are making it on the blog, but yesterday my sister, roomies, and I went to Zilker park with a bunch of other people. It was  75 degrees and sunny so we spent the afternoon throwing frisbees, kicking soccer balls, and just enjoying the weather.

photo-27 photo-28We also had a box of fried chicken and we were like the Pied Pipers of dogs.

photo-30 photo-29Yesterday was Hal’s last day and I miss her already!

Have you ever been to an exercise class where a participant went above and beyond? Did it intimidate you or inspire you?

Orientation confusion

Yesterday I had my orientation for UT…it was interesting. 99.9% of the folks there were transfer students who had gone through this whole college thing before and so they just kind of started whipping through information. I sat there while a bombardment of data crashed into my skull and through the madness I could make out bits like “study 1,000,000 hours a week” and “join student organizations” and “get enough sleep”. I calculated the hours and realized I’ll be working round the clock with no sleep for the next fifteen weeks.

Once that meeting was over (I just tried to spell meeting as meading if anyone wants to know, I need college) I cleared my head at lunch and realized that college students always have lives and I’m used to a busy schedule so I’ll keep up, stay organized and be fine. Phew…crisis averted. Then came the meeting with my advisor.

They didn’t have my AP scores. Why? She doesn’t know. I have to take a math and a chemistry placement exam today. By when? Oh tonight, she was supposed to tell me a long time ago but it slipped her mind. I laid out a schedule but some of the classes could be full, so which classes should I take instead if that’s the case? She isn’t sure. Something freshman can take. It’s pretty clear that I’ll be having to search for the answers to my own questions and pray registration goes smoothly. But I shall prevail.

CLZ9yDespite feeling a little overwhelmed and having a crappy advisor, it was a pretty great day. I met some awesome people at orientation who I’m looking forward to getting to know more, and Halley and I got to spend time with our second family, the Olsons, out in Dripping Springs, TX.

IMG_2579Say hello to Steve, Faith, Halley of course, Hannah and their son David isn’t pictured here. We ate an incredible meal that faith cooked full of veggies and deliciousness before heading out to an Italian restaurant to grab some dessert. After stuffing my face with Italian cream cake we stopped by an art gallery close to the movie theatre we were going to.

IMG_2581This is as big as my hand. This is five hundred dollars. Sometimes I don’t get art.

There were some amazing pieces and I found a cool, huge pillow that said “Life is Good” in a funky font but I can’t shell out fifty dollars for a pillow at this point so we walked out empty handed to see the Life of Pi.

loved it! I’m so glad I caught it before it went out of theaters. It was stunning to to look and but didn’t rely on just visuals as it kept you engaged the entire time. I want to watch it again.

I’m off to register! Wish me luck!
