Snacking and sleeping

Yesterday morning I got some great news from my doctor! He gave me a plan of action and I should be all better in a few weeks. For some reason after my appointment, though, I still had all this anxiety and nervous energy pent up!

tumblr_mekn1yFJMt1rm4qs9o1_500I called my parents and had a nice long chat with them and it really seemed to help. I’m still feeling kind of nervous and unsure but I think that it is going to take a few days for it to hit me that this isn’t going to turn into some huge deal! I’ll just be patient.

After my appointment I hit up the grocery store to load up on healthy ingredients for the next few weeks. I bought apples, grapes, a rotisserie chicken, some veggies, and a huge box of spring mix. I’m planning to fix some big salads every day for lunch to get lots of fiber and protein!

cpks-provencal-saladI have to admit my eating the past couple weeks has not been the best. I’ve been really stressed and not sleeping, so I start out with a healthy breakfast but become a snack machine as the day goes on. When I’m so tired my body craves things like sweets and simple carbs, so I really need to get back on the wagon. Now that I know what’s going on with my health and can start sleeping again it will be easier to get back to tons of fruits and veggies and only 1 or 2 snacks a day between meals.

Thank you for all your well wishes on the job interview yesterday! I think it went really well. It was pretty short and all the questions were basic so I think I presented myself in a good light. I was in a rush to get there though so I only had time for hair and not makeup.

IMG_4177Oh well! It’s too hot for makeup anyway, right? After my interview I headed off to nanny until the early evening. Two girls I used to babysit in Great Falls are staying with the family I work for this week and it’s been wonderful to see them again. They’re turning into such neat people!

Last night I went to bed super early and took some Zzzquil in order to fall asleep. It really helped me! I think when we get too exhausted our bodies have trouble letting go. All day long you’re fighting off sleep and it’s hard to make the switch to relaxation when you lie down at night. The Zzzquil helped my body realize that it was okay to sleep now and sleep it did! For almost 12 hours.

The Mustard Seed

I’m rolling on day two here with zero hours of sleep. I can remember every moment of the last two nights, except like 20 minutes when I dozed off after my alarm went off. WTF body? I’m fighting sleep all day and then I lay down and it evades me. So dumb.

tumblr_ml1geaAc2d1rwcc6bo1_250In happier news, I met my grandpa for dinner at The Mustard Seed last night. It’s an upscale asian restaurant that recently remodeled so we wanted to check it out! The decor was gorgeous and the food was even better.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI had chicken teriyaki that was perfectly moist, not too sweet, and delectable. Plus all their dishes are family style so I have enough leftovers for lunches today and tomorrow. Win!

Right before my grandpa called me I was debating whether or not to get take out from The Mustard Seed on my way home, so things couldn’t have worked out more perfectly.

I have a doctors appointment and a job interview today! Big day, wish me luck!

Meal Planning

I love to stay organized when I’m planning out my food, especially when I’m super busy. If you get home from a long day and you’re starving, unhealthy choices are bound to be made if something healthy isn’t already on the menu.

Cereal….you’re calling to me….

tumblr_lvm7t1Q8XC1qasauvo1_r1_500So today when the girls had a two hour day camp, I took the opportunity to do some meal planning and grocery shopping. I just love grocery shopping! I wanted to go to the Good Food Store but I’m much too broke for that, so Food Farm it was.

432355_392309924132043_218945600_nThey still have all the organic produce and meat I need, just much cheaper. Alright! Here was my list:

Bananas, strawberries, nectarines, blueberries, sweet potato, onion, avocado, bell pepper, chicken, beef, salsa, wheat-free tortillas, lunch meat.

And here’s my meal plan:

Tonight: Chicken caesar salad with hard boiled eggs.

Wednesday: Hamburger patty with sweet potato fries and peas

Thursday: Grilled tilapia with avocado and bell pepper side salad.

Friday: Caramelized onions and chicken stir fry with a side caesar salad and the rest of the sweet potato fries.

tumblr_mosk7uC7qD1rm9va6o1_500I don’t plan out my lunches as much, but I don’t usually have trouble coming up with something healthy and delicious. I’m lucky too because the family I nanny for also eats nutritious food so I don’t need to pack a lunch.

The Idiot

Today was a very productive day! It started bright and early with a 7am wake up call and a hearty, delicious breakfast.

IMG_3892I figured out that putting the peanut butter on top of my oatmeal while its still hot is SO much better than stirring it in while it cooks. You can taste it so much more and every bite has a little ribbon of creamy, melty deliciousness.

After breakfast I finished up my psychology research paper. It took much longer than it should have due to many breaks and general distractedness, but around lunchtime I finally finished and ran out to run some errands (after eating a bowl of quinoa and an apple).

IMG_3901I mailed Halley her climbing shoes, sent the rest of the money I owed to the people who I bought the bed from, and returned some things from Target. Then I came home and relaxed for a bit before heading to my transfer student meeting on campus.

As I was sitting outside the lecture hall before the meeting, two people walked up to me. Feeling super social, I introduced myself right away to the woman and was super smiley and sweet. I then proceeded to ask her the name of her dad.

Who turned out to be her husband.

Why???

tumblr_inline_mhrsry5e5X1qz4rgpThen we had to sit there for like ten minutes and wait for the meeting to start. That wasn’t awkward at all. Once the meeting was over, another wave of incompetence hit me and I was totally unable to find my way home. This is not a large campus. See, there is a little park across from my house that I’ve never noticed before, so when I saw that park I thought I must be going the wrong way.

rD1J7gVI wandered around the empty campus for thirty minutes getting more and more turned around and hungry. Finally, I had to call my mother and she gave me step by step instructions on how to get home (she grew up in Missoula). Yep, almost twenty years old folks and my sense of direction has refused to kick in. Sheesh.

Once I was done being an absolute moron for the day, I spent the next hour enjoying my book in the newly discovered park outside my house! After munching on some almonds and a small bowl of cereal, that is.

IMG_3902At six I walked down to my cousin, Phoebe’s, house to join her at “out to dinner”, an event held in the park by the river downtown. It was a gorgeous night and I am still blown away by how beautiful this city/state is.

IMG_3903I had a pulled pork taco and a beef taco with spinach, salsa, guac, and pepper jack cheese. Holy yum!! After dinner we walked around downtown for a bit to soak in the evening before calling it a night.

IMG_3905When I came home I had a really fun and long conversation with my roommate Madi. She’s  awesome! Now I’m off to bed, I have an entire day of orientation tomorrow. Lets see how that goes, shall we?

Missoula Weekend

This weekend was so much fun!! I have LOTS of photos to share with ya’ll. I tried my best to put them in chronological order! Starting with a delicious breakfast at the “Hob Nob” with Phoebe on Friday morning, then we went and got Halley lunch and the three of us headed to City Brew for some after noon coffee later that day.

 

That night we went and saw an amazing production of “Fiddler on the Roof” after having dinner together at Tower Pizza. The young man who was my “prince” for homecoming last year was  in it! It was cool knowing one of the actors. It got a little long for me but it was very impressive.

We also spent quite a few hours hanging out in my aunt’s living room chatting with the fam. Always quite lovely!

On Saturday Halley and I woke up early and headed to Bernice’s Bakery with our dad for breakfast and lots of coffee. Then we got ready for the day and hung out for a while with our family before heading out to an early lunch at the Tamarack. Our cousin went to a tailgate but her and my aunt showed up later to lunch so we all got to see each other!

 

That day we went to a bunch of different stores and ended up at the mall where I got a new sweater dress from the Gap! Ah I love that store. I tried on a BUNCH of things but I hated the way most of them fit on me. Isn’t it funny how sometimes all the clothes we put on feel terrible? So annoying.

After the mall Halley and I planned to go to City Brew so she could get some studying done. However, when we walked into her house her roommates had some friends over and they were very persuasive and we ended up hanging out with them for a couple hours instead. Oooops! They were so much fun though.

 

 

 

Then we headed back to my Aunt’s house for a “Thanksgiving” ham meal. My poor cousin was coughing and sick all day. I felt bad! The meal was delicious and afterward we tried to watch a movie and I kept falling asleep so I just went to bed!

On Sunday morning we had cake for breakfast and then Halley went to Zumba and I got ready and packed up all my stuff! Then I hung out with my parents and my aunt for a while before heading to an early lunch with our good friend Pat Simmons. Then I grabbed a cup of coffee to go and hit the road!

What a fun weekend 🙂

And I’m Off!

…In 2 and a half hours.

I’m so excited for today. I’m going to leave at 11, stop in Helena for lunch and my daily walk, and then mosey on to Missoula. I love having time to take road trips slowly.

I’m also going to need a lot of coffee since SOMEONE woke me up every half hour last night.

I don’t know what those black scribbles are, but let’s pretend it’s my anger. First she was on the end of the bed, then she started shivering and scooted up and made me slide over so she could have some covers. Then she had to go upstairs and make sure my parents were still alive and come downstairs and tell me everything she saw (whine a lot).

“I walked all the way upstairs in the dark and it was really scary and then I opened mom and dad’s door and I was so afraid they wouldn’t be there because they like to leave in the middle of the night even though they never have and then they were still there and I was so happy so I came back downstairs and now I’m telling you and you should really scoot over”

*whine whine whine whine whine* sigh. Good thing she’s cute. Speaking of cute, look at these pictures I found of her as a baby.

 

It is such false advertising. Gotta love her though! I’m off to get ready. Have a good day 🙂
