I am back in my home state!! 27 hours of driving later. I spent my first two nights in Billings. The first night Halley and I went to dinner with our friend Tamara and then had a Game of Thrones marathon! The next day Halley and I met up with Riley to hang out all day. We ate at the brew pub downtown, got fro yo, and hiked around in Zimmerman park.
That night Riley joined Halley, Russ (our family friend), and his kids Nick and Julia and I for dinner at Enzos. It’s a fantastic restaurant and anytime I’m in Billings I always make a point to go there. I had shallots with sweet corn risotto and it was incredible.
Monday morning I left for Missoula bright and early!! It is so beautiful here.
I’ve been doing a lot of work on my room, it started out as just a huge pile of stuff and is slowly starting to resemble a residence.
Today I finished up my closet and once I get a dresser most of my unpacking will be done!! I need a bed, desk, and dresser. Oy vey.
I’ve also eaten at Mackenzie River Pizza Company three times already. THREE TIMES. I stopped there for lunch in Bozeman, went there with my two cousins and aunt on my first night here, and then the family I’m nannying for ordered it last night.
No complaints over here, this is literally the best place to eat pizza that has ever existed. I have missed it so much!!
I still have a ton of work to finish up today so I’m going to head out! Have a great one! So happy to be here 😀
Today wraps up my time in Texas! I can’t believe it. I literally feel like I just got here and it definitely has not hit me yet that I’m leaving…I’m not quite sure it ever will. This all feels sort of like a super long field trip.
But we made the last day fun!! Lunch at (where else?) the Clay Pit…again.
Once my belly was full of curried veggies and a few other incredible dishes, we headed to the Ransom Center on campus to look at their exhibits. Admission is free and they have some incredible things to look at!
They have an original Gutenberg Bible, the world’s first photograph, plus traveling exhibits. Today’s were Literature and Sports (did you know Charles Dickens walked 20 miles a day?) and modern photography. We spent over an hour perusing everything before venturing outside to spend a little bit more time on campus.
University of Texas is such a gorgeous school and such an impressive institution. I feel so lucky that I got to go here, even though it wasn’t for nearly as long as I thought it was going to be!
When I came home I attempted to make some peanut butter and jelly muffins. They turned out more like…muffin crumble.
A couple things went wrong here…1) The jam I used was more like syrup and didn’t hold its shape whatsoever and 2) it called for a marble sized amount and I went for more of a golf ball. haha! At least they taste good!!
Tomorrow morning I have to wake up early and load up my car and hit the road! The next three days are going to consist of a LOT of driving. Yipee!
I’m whipping through this post because I have about 8 bajillion things to go study, but last night I got to sleep in my parent’s new house! I decided to head out there after work since I didn’t have class until noon today and I was missing my puppy like crazy. This was the first time she’d seen me in Texas and she was SO confused. She looked at me all guilty and smelled me forever, and then finally brought me a gift in the form of a bone. So cute!
I sat at the kitchen table and did my homework while talking with my mom about everything that’s going on in our lives. It really made Texas feel like my home! Also, it’s so unbelievably quiet out where my parents live. I got a better night’s sleep than I have in a long time. This morning I studied and dozed while Alice and my mom did the same.
Alice is still a little unsure about this new place. She follows my mom everywhere and seemed pretty forlorn when my dad left for work.
That’s her watching him leave. hah! Her facial expressions are so human. I headed back into town around 11 to make it in time for my government test. TESTS EW.
It is amazing having my family living in Austin. One of the things I love about my parents is that they aren’t pushy. They want me to be busy and have my own life, and they just love the times that I do get to spend time with them without making me feel guilty if I don’t see them in a while. Which makes me want to see them more! (Other parents: take note). It’s so nice to have roots here 🙂
After my test I headed to the gym, warmed up on the bike, and worked my chest and shoulders. My legs are KILLING me from the last two day’s workouts so I didn’t push too hard on the bike. Need that recovery time! Off to study chem!
Would you like to live in the same town as your parents? Why or why not?
