Yesterday was spectacular. The weather was perfect, with highs in the 80’s and sun basking over everything. At 2pm I got a text from work saying that it was super slow and I didn’t need to come in if I didn’t want to, an opportunity I jumped on! I went back to my condo and hung out with all the girls visiting for Roundup weekend (a huge weekend of Greek parties with food, concerts, drinks, and the likes every year. It’s huge.) We sat on the couch and were lazy, just catching up on girl talk for a few hours.

tumblr_md4rw6ThDP1ql5yr7o1_400Then Juan Pablo and I went to dinner at my favorite Thai place, Madam Mam’s. I had Pad See Ew with beef and left full and happy to watch our friends’ dance performance!

They are in the Dabke group on campus. Dabke is an Arabic form of dance that originated from the creation of thatched roofs. They had to stomp on the roofs in unison to bind them together and the style of dance was born!

photo-66It’s much more intricate than that now though, of course, and this group was so good! I’ve heard my friend Osama talking about it several times and was super curious so the chance to see it in action was very gratifying. It’s such an upbeat, energizing form of dance and I could tell everyone in the group loved to do it. They had big smiles on their faces, energy in their movements, and made the dance seem like a true celebration.

Afterward, we all went back to Juan Pablo’s apartment and hung out and talked for a while, before I got too tired and had to head home to bed! Now I’m at Starbucks typing up this blog post before I get some chem studying under my belt and head to my first Purre Barre class.

purebarre-threepicsI’ve wanted to try Purre Barre forever! When my friend Caroline asked me to go with her I was so excited. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes! Have a great Saturday!

NTC_Logo_NBasianYep, another NTC workout. An intermediate level, 45 minute toning workout. Perfect way to start my day!

Winter Wonderland

You might be wondering why I am not in Bozeman right now preparing to hit the road after an amazing night with incredible friends. Well…Mother Nature had a different idea yesterday when she hit Montana with a huge snow storm. All the road reports were for ice and snow and limited visibility. I was disappointed I didn’t get to see my friends, but I’d rather not end up crying on the side of the road somewhere because I can’t see and I’m a big baby.

tumblr_luoxd3Wg8P1r6aoq4o1_250This morning when I woke up the snow had covered everything. Despite not being a winter fan, this type of snow is insanely beautiful. My yard looks like it is covered in diamonds and when you look at the right angle, you can actually see the individual crystals of snow. AND they really are shaped like the drawings! I felt like a little kid seeing snow for the first time when I saw that.

photo-20On this wintry morning I created one of the most decadent tasting breakfasts I’ve ever had. I say “decadent tasting” because it really only had 405 calories! Two tablespoons whipped cream cheese and a tablespoon of strawberry jam between two slices of wheat bread. Whip together some vanilla, an egg, and a splash of milk. Dip the sandwich and grill. Sprinkle with a dash of powdered sugar and viola!

photo-19It tasted like strawberry cheesecake, I kid you not. Try it out and prove me right, I dare you! As I ate this delicious breakfast looking out at the snow and listening to Christmas music, I really felt the Holiday Spirit. I am so excited for Christmas this year and for the month that follows…so many exciting things coming up!

What puts you in the Holiday Spirit?

When my whole house is decorated that really helps, but I think it’s mostly the music! Music is so incredibly powerful and when you blast cheery Christmas music you can’t help but be excited and sing along.

Song turning points

Yesterday was such a fun Saturday! I woke up right at 8 am. Lately I don’t even need to set an alarm, I guess 8 is just the time my body has chosen to get started on the day. I got ready quickly and headed to the grocery store to pick up some ingredients for a chicken marinade I was making.

After cooking up a storm, I headed to lunch with my aunt Susie at “The Suki Cafe”. They serve Thai food and sushi and never disappoint!

california_roll-20335217With a full belly, I drove around completing some little errands like returning the movie we watched last night and grabbing an Americano from Starbucks. The holiday cups are so festive! I need to have my annual Christmas drink, but I think I’ll wait until it gets a little cooler outside.

photo-18Driving home, sipping my hot coffee, Miranda Lambert’s song “Over You” came on the radio. I had a flashback to the first time I heard the lyric “It really sinks in, you know, when I see it in stone.”

tumblr_lt56xjyfbO1qdz3dz“What?!? He’s dead?!? Here I was thinking he was a big jerk!! WAAAA!!” Was basically what went flying through my mind. There are quite a few songs that do that, actually, have a big twist. It’s usually very funny or very sad. Brad Paisly’s “I’m going to miss her” song cracked me up the first time I heard it.

I can only think of country songs for some reason but I know there are others!

What’s your favorite “twist” song? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yesterday outside of Hastings I saw the cutest thing! A family with two little boys was leaving the store and the toddler started to fall behind. The other brother who looked like he was like two years older turned around and walked back to him, grabbed his hand, and they kept walking.

I just thought that was SO sweet. I love when siblings watch out for one another. I mean, that’s what siblings are for!! You go, little boy.

Also, something truly miraculous has happened. I just got a corset to keep my back in place since the pain has been increasing over the last few days (that’s definitely not the good part, bear with me) and I got an ad from Banana republic that they have a new line of dresses based off Anna Karenina. WHAT?!?

It’s fate it’s fate it’s fate it’s fate it’s fate it’s fate. I’m telling you. I need all three of those dresses like RIGHT NOW. When I got the ad, I was a very VERY happy girl.

We also got some new music in our house this week. I love music all kinds, especially when it’s brand spankin’ new.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to them both very much, but what I have heard so far I really like! My favorite song on Taylor’s album so far is “I knew you were trouble”. It just has a cool sound that isn’t really country OR pop.

Anyway, that’s all for me! It’s Saturday, my favorite day ever and I am off to enjoy it. Have a great one ❤

Have you heard any new music lately?
