Sparkling Water Basketball Game

Yesterday felt like a nice day of summer vacation! For lunch I used two more of the Chuys tortillas and the leftover sweet potato stuffing to make some veggie tacos. They were filling and deeeeeelicious.

IMG_2434_2Halley and my mom ate lunch at the same time as me, and of course Alice had to be in on the action as well.

IMG_2438_2Even though my lunch filled me up as I was eating it, I still got really hungry in the afternoon! Onions, corn, and black beans are not rich foods by any means so I really didn’t eat the much. That’s what I love about fruits and veggies, you can eat a lot!

I snacked on an apricot, pita chips and hummus, and a small serving of frozen yogurt. For dinner we made more sweet potato fries and finished the leftover organic hot dogs. We were low on buns so I had to improvise. 😀

IMG_2441_2After dinner, it was time to walk the dog and then settle in for game three of the finals! Halley and I came up with a “drinking game” (sparkling water for me) to make the game even more fun. Here were the rules:

999382_10201427858921480_197169156_nI loved it! On top of being excited when the Spurs scored, you had all of these things to look forward to as well.

Breakfast

My breakfast today was exactly the same as yesterday!

IMG_2430_2Oatmeal with blueberries, banana, dark chocolate almond butter, and cinnamon. I got outside for some exercise before it got too hot and then had some errands to run. When I got home I snacked on a tortilla with hummus, yum!

Catch you later! 😀

New Fitness Classes

I’ve read over and over that the best way to keep exercise fun and effective is to incorporate tons of variety. Not only does this keep your brain engaged, it also works every muscle differently and produces more complete fitness and lessens the chance of injury. That being said, there are three types of workout classes I’ve read about that I’d love to try.

1. Underwater Spinning

Bike2This is only available in a small number of studios across the world right now, but hopefully someday I’ll find myself in the vicinity. The bike provides the resistance so the faster you go, the more you work. Also, the massaging action of the water stimulates fat loss and the buoyancy you have in the water enables you to do more moves than a traditional spinning class. Maybe it would also keep my butt from getting so sore!!

2. Hot Yoga

bikram_slide2I won’t ever be this chic, but I’m interested in this class. I always feel amazing when I warm up my muscles and stretch them out, and this takes that to a whole new level. I get lightheaded pretty easily though so that makes me kind of nervous. Still, I think I need to try it!

3. Pilates Reformer

pilates3I am planning to do more Pilates since it’s such an incredible way to tone the body without impact and I’d love to try a class on one of the machines. They really intimidate me but I think once an expert showed me what to do I’d love it.

Breakfast

Running for exercise and running away

Remember my “cute little dream house” that I talked about yesterday?? This guy??

IMG_3449IT IS 1.2 MILLION DOLLARS.

tumblr_ml9jp3qHJ71ql5yr7o1_400It’s only a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath house! I guess location really is everything. I figured it would be in the 3 or 4 hundred thousand range and when I looked it up my jaw about hit the floor. In fact, my favorite neighborhood in Austin is impossible to buy into without 2 million. YIKES! Good thing I have a billionnare benefactor. ha.

In other random news, I went for a run this morning!

IMG_3469Nice and easy. I know, you’re probably thinking, um this blog is called Anything BUT Running. I don’t actually have anything against running, it just seems to be a form of exercise people get obsessed with and forget about other things that are needed for balance and functional fitness!

Every spring I get the itch to get outside and usually go on a few runs before it goes out of my system again. This morning I didn’t want to do an intense workout so I figured a little jog would be nice. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I could easily have logged a couple more miles! I was barely even breathing hard when I got home, I just needed to study! I’m awesome?

tumblr_lye6ltznJy1qiw0juhaha juuuuuust kidding, don’t worry. At two I sat down to take my bio final. It was 10 free response questions and 75 multiple choice questions. Every single question had options A-B, then one option that included two or three answers, and an option for all of the above. It was ridiculous.

P1ItrTLRun away and cry. Hopefully I did well, I took my time to read and go through each problem slowly and carefully but I have zero idea if I chose the correct options. Blah. Just glad it’s over!!!!

Now I have to force myself to be motivated to study chemistry. Wish me luck!

Food and Exercise

Running before studying and then an arm workout after my test.

IMG_3468Bad about taking pics today sorry!! Breakfast: strawberry pancakes. Lunch: Chicken curry salad sandwich. Snacks: yogurt, an apple, and a banana. Dinner: bagel thin with tuna salad, carrots and hummus.

Lightning Fast

That’s how today felt, but it was one of the best days I’ve had so far this week. I didn’t have work OR class so I was able to sleep in until 8am and I haven’t felt so rested in a long time! I also got a TON of stuff done.

I have to write a research paper for my Latin American Studies class and I chose to explore medical care in Cuba. I read through 200 pages worth of articles and speeches today, and already feel like I’ve learned so much. Research projects are the bomb.com.

nerdalert_091412I also tackled all my chem homework and went to a long biology review session. I’ve studied a crazy amount for my test tomorrow so I’m just over it. I’m going to get a good night’s sleep, eat a big breakfast, read through the test slowly, and hope for the best. If I’m not prepared by now, there’s nothing else I can do!

tumblr_m7sbv8rzP61rv7wg5o1_500Also, I hit a HUGE milestone today! At least it feels huge to me. I can finally do ab exercises where I extend my legs out in front of me (like V-ups) without it hurting my back! I don’t mention my back injury on here very much anymore because it’s essentially healed, but there were still a few things I couldn’t do. I thought it was as good as it was going to get, but today when I did those ab exercises I realized it’s going to keep improving!

On a side note, it feels like a ripped all my ab muscles to shreds. OW.

7a97be3b8f4513ef02d0dd8323c28c28I laid down and when I tried to get back up I literally could not do it. I had to roll over on my side and scoot my way up like a little baby. It was pretty sad. I think I killed some muscles that haven’t been worked in a loooong time.

Breakfast: toast with peanut butter and jelly. Lunch: grilled turkey and cheese with a spinach salad. Snack: Yogurt with some corn flakes stirred in for crunch. Dinner: most of a taco meal from the dining hall while I studied.

I redid the Nike “competitor” workout today to see if I’d be able to push myself a little harder and I definitely did!

Day of Three Breakfasts

Today, without even realizing it until moments before putting this post together, I was in a breakfast food mood!

Breakfast #1

photo-93Overnight oats with granola and a side of iced coffee! I’m all about cold breakfasts now that the temperatures are in the 90’s.

Breakfast #2

photo-94A bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch (I told you I was addicted) and a sliced apple, scarfed down before running out the door to work.

Breakfast #3

photo-95Best breakfast of the day! I made pancakes with applesauce, strawberries, and bananas. Topped with 1 tablespoon each of maple syrup and peanut butter with a scrambeled egg on the side! Delish!

Snacks and Workout

I had turkey, spinach, and cream cheese roll ups after my morning class, and savored some strawberries and a cheese stick at work! My life was lacking veggies in a major way today.

At the gym I warmed up with 30 minutes on the bike before hammering my biceps and triceps. Going to the gym in the morning of a hot day is great because you sweat constantly, and then all your sweat turns into ice when you walk into your classes.

Do you like breakfast food?

Little Things

I’ve been pretty stressed about some major things going on in my life lately, but today I realized how huge of an impact tiny positive things can have on your day! I had a lovely start to my week, and these small dorky little things were the cherries on top.

1. I came up with a clever tweet.

photo-2This one is the dorkiest of all! I just felt pretty clever! haha, no judging 😀

2. I woke up and my Chemistry homework just clicked.

tumblr_mdwb0s8ChJ1ry4qimI was so sleepy at the library last night that I didn’t do most of my homework. This morning I got every single problem right! Felt amazing to start the week that way.

3. My biology professor bought pizza for the few kids who come to the review sessions.

photo-81 copyDEEEELICIOUS. Such a nice gesture, I really appreciate teachers who acknowledge the students who are honestly trying their hardest.

4. I created a fun new workout!

Untitled-1I sandwiched this circuit in between two 20 minute sessions on the bike. I needed to work my biceps and triceps today but I wasn’t in the mood to stand around! This kept me moving and energized, and my mind occupied 😀

What little things make for a good day to you?
